Privacy policy

This policy explains what personal information SC Laser Ltd (“we”) collects through the Contourvio website, free trials, purchases and the Contourvio Windows application, why, and what you can ask us to do with it. We are the data controller for this information.

The short version

• The app works offline. Your artwork never leaves your computer, including when you use Smart Select.
• The app only contacts us when you choose to check for updates or redeem a trial code.
• The website has no analytics, advertising or tracking cookies.
• We never see your card details; payments are handled by Stripe.
• We keep only what we need to issue and support your licence, and to meet our legal duties.

The website

The website is a static site hosted on Cloudflare. Like any web host, Cloudflare processes your IP address and basic request details (such as browser type and the page requested) to deliver pages and protect the site from abuse. We do not use analytics, advertising or tracking cookies, and the site’s fonts are served from our own domain.

Free trials

To start a free trial you give us your name and email address. We send a verification email, then a one-time code to activate the trial in the app. We record your name, email address, the time of your request and the trial licence we issue, and we briefly process your IP address to limit abuse. Your name and email address are included in the signed trial licence stored on your computer.

We keep trial records so that the same email address can’t start repeated trials, for 2 years, and delete them sooner on request.

Purchases and licences

Card payments are taken by Stripe. Stripe collects and processes your payment details under its own privacy policy; we never receive your full card number. From each purchase we keep your name, company name (if any), email address, the order reference, the edition you bought, your licence ID and any upgrade entitlement such as the Founder’s Offer. Your licence key contains your name or company name and, if given, your email address.

We use this to deliver your licence, honour upgrades, provide support and keep proper business records. UK law requires us to keep accounting records for six years.

The Contourvio application

• Licence checks happen entirely on your computer. Nothing is sent to us when the app starts or while you work.
• Updates: only when you click the update button, the app downloads release information and files from updates.contourvio.com (hosted on Cloudflare). This request includes your IP address but no licence or personal details.
• Trial codes: when you redeem a code, the app sends it to us to receive your signed trial licence.
• Your files, settings and licence are stored on your computer and are never uploaded. Smart Select runs locally.

Emails

We send emails that are needed to provide the service: trial verification, licence delivery and important notices about your licence. We will not send marketing emails unless you have opted in, and you can unsubscribe at any time.

Why we may use your information (lawful bases)

• Contract: to provide trials, licences, upgrades and support you ask for.
• Legal obligation: to keep accounting and tax records.
• Legitimate interests: to prevent trial abuse and fraud, and to keep the website and services secure.
• Consent: for any marketing emails, which you can withdraw at any time.

Who processes data for us

• Cloudflare, Inc.: website hosting, downloads, updates, trial and licence records, sending trial and licence emails, and bot checks on the trial form.
• Stripe Payments Europe, Ltd.: card payments.

These providers may process data outside the UK. Where they do, they rely on safeguards recognised under UK data protection law. We do not sell your personal information.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you can ask us for a copy of your personal information, ask us to correct or delete it, restrict or object to how we use it, or ask for it in a portable format. Email us at support@contourvio.com. If you are unhappy with how we handle your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk.

Deleting your purchase records does not switch off a licence you already hold, because licences are checked offline.

Children

Contourvio is a business tool and is not intended for children under 16.

Changes to this policy

We will update this page if how we handle personal information changes, and change the effective date above.
